Style
When choosing furnishings, textiles, or lighting for a room, it’s easy to focus on just their Style. What is the color? The pattern? The shape? And while this is the first piece in the styling puzzle, there are 3 other pieces that are just as vital.
Service
What practical purpose does / can this styled vignette provide? Maybe it’s a mirror in the entry for a last check on your makeup as you head out the door, or a shallow bowl or box on your nightstand to stash your lip balm and glasses at night. Design must ALWAYS be practical.
Scale
Scale and proportion are the fundamental elements to achieving a beautiful room that looks balanced and effortless and should always be considered together. Scale refers to the size of objects in relation to that of the space and proportion is concerned with the size of objects in relation to each other.
Shape
Here the shape of the mirror is based on the style we are trying to reflect - Regency Palm Beach (yep. that’s a thing!). The idea is to play with shapes in the vignette to create contrast and interest.
Story
Select accessories that reflect your story. A piece that reminds you of someone, somewhere or something that makes you smile (4 more S’s to consider!)
Pretty in Palm Beach

Style: Here we embody the glamour and bold aesthetic of Palm Beach interiors with regency style flourishes and a pretty pink palette tempered by white accents.
Service: A mirror is always a useful addition in a bedroom. It can also help brighten a corner by bouncing light from a window.
Scale: Console should fill 2/3rds of the wall on which it sits. Mirror should be 1/2 - 2/3 width of console and taller than the height of the console to elongate the vignette.
Shape: Regency flourishes on the mirror and lamp reflect the style of this home.
Story: Here a glass parrot speaks to the owners sense of whimsy and the Palm Beach setting.
How To…
Center the mirror over the console.
Divide console surface into 2 equal sections. This works best for consoles < 50 inches in width.
Add a lamp to the outside of one section and stack of books centered in the other section.
Add a sculpture and small bowl close to lamp in first section. This leaves a breathing gap between them and the stack of books.
Bonus: Books are a great way to reflect your style and tell your story, through color and subject matter.
Extra Tip: Make sure at least one item overlaps the mirror to keep the vignette connected.
